Georgia tree trimmer killed in workplace accident

A recent tree trimming accident has left one family grieving the loss of their loved one. When a person is killed on the job, the surviving family members may be overwhelmed by grief as well as feelings of uncertainty about their financial future. Thankfully, Georgia law requires most companies to provide workers' compensation benefits to victims of a workplace accident. In the case of fatalities, these benefits may also extend to the surviving family members of the employee.

A professional tree trimmer in Georgia recently lost his life in an on-the-job accident. According to the reports, the man was working outside of a home in Fulton County when the incident occurred. As he was cutting down a branch, another inadvertently came down on him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Investigating officers gathered information from the victim's work partner. He is believed to be the only witness to the accident. No further information has been released at this time. As with any fatal workplace accident, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will likely conduct an investigation to ensure the business is in compliance with current safety standards.

In Georgia, the surviving family members of victims killed in a workplace accident may be entitled to workers' compensation death benefits. Benefits awarded to the victim's family may provide them with much-needed financial assistance for losses suffered as a result of the tragic accident. Funeral and burial expenses are typically compensable, along with a lost income package for a deceased victim's dependents. It is important for victims to fully explore their right to benefits under the law and the applicable procedures necessary to perfect a claim.
